Downloading Tasker

System Updates

the first thing you will want to do is set up some of the information which tasker will tell your computer, for example, its battery level.

to do this, create a new profile (ive named mine “Lucas check”), then go to time. untick both "from" and "until" and tick repeat, set it to something that is frequent, but dont set it too frequently as this will create sync errors. my tasker is set to write files every 10 minutes.

Next you will be prompted to create a new task, ive called mine “vitals”.within this, you need to go to add>file>write file

Press the magnifying glass and search for your newly created system folder. add your file name, followed by .txt (for example battery.txt.) then click the label icon for the “text” field. Now add your variable. If we are creating a battery status file then scroll to battery level, or type %BATT.

Do this for each of the system information values that you require.

ignore the "dashclock" event for now.

You should now be able to see these files from your dropbox.

Setting Up Autovoice

for this you will need auto-voice:  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autovoice&hl=en

to make auto-voice easily accessible, simply add the "recognise" widget to your homescreen.

Setting Up statements

Statements which i currently have set up include things like suggesting something to eat, telling me when i am home, or telling me a joke. feel free to skip this step if you want to link your tasker to my files. i am also willing to set up and host files too, just send an email to me at [email protected]

To do this, set up a .txt file in your statements folder, for example, Meal.txt

Then open this new file and type your suggestions, make sure you put / before each suggestions as this is what tasker will use to split the text up.

*feel free to go to  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/b2c23bmic2tz6xp/VabtRamnxF to download my files.

Now, on your phone load up the tasker app. Create a new profile called “meal suggest”. Go to state>plugin>autovoice recognise. Touch the pencil to configure autovoice, tick “event behaviour” and then in command filter add your trigger word, for example “eat”.

You will then be prompted to set up a new task. Name it “meals”.

The first event will read the file, if you are doing it from a local file then set up similar to how I have below. If you want to use my files, insert the url of the file you want to use (in this case https://www.dropbox.com/sh/b2c23bmic2tz6xp/RtPefGKU1e/L.U.C.A.S/Statements/Meal.txt) the rest of the setup should be the same from here. make the variable that you write to easy to adapt, so for this i use "%Dinnertext". i suggest naming all of your variables in the form of %(assosicated with task)text, so that things dont become confusing

set the rest of the task up as i have below, this is so that it firstly reads the file, writes it to a variable, then calculates how many lines are in the file, splits the entries up into arrays and then randomly selects one to say.

Test this by triggering auto voice recognize and saying your triggerword.

you can edit the statements at any time you would like via the file on your computer synced the file with dropsync and next time you run the task, it will take your new lines into account.

Welcome Home Message

Setting up a message for when you come home is very simple, for my profile, my university halls, Tasker searches my geo-location to see where i am, and if I am within a specified radius then it activates the profile.

To get this setting go to new profile > location. Then hold to pin the area on the map that you want to specify, and also select a radius.

An alternative for this is to use your wifi connection. To use this, go to state>Net>Wifi Near. Then press the magnifying glass on “SSID” and select your home network.

simply add any extra events that you want to this section. for example, you can see i turn my alarm right up, as well as my in-call volume and all my other volumes up.

Adding the speech to this profile is exactly the same as how we set up the statements before. You will notice that in my dropbox folder I have a home file set up, I simply link that task up to the event. This is so that it will randomise its response each time.
